How Bob Greene’s Best Life Diet Works

Bob Greene’s Best Life Diet is comprised of 4 stages.  In each stage, the focus is on creating good habits of both exercise and healthy eating that will last a lifetime.   Unlike many of the high-pressure diets currently being aggressively marketed, the Best Life Diet has no fixed timeline, allowing participants to move through the stages at their own pace.

The Best Life Diet begins with Phase 1, which presents and initial set of written exercises focused on helping participants a) identify the core elements of their weight loss questions and the challenges they face in gaining emotional health and b) begin basic stretching and physical exercises that can help them start slowing to get into shape without injury themselves.   As you progress through the following phases, the Best Life Diet helps participants focus on specific behavior changes, and slowly implements more exercise suggestions and eating guidelines.

One of the most attractive elements of the Bob Greene’s Best Life Diet is that it provides a regular meal schedule-no starvation plan here!  Participants eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks.  Like food guidelines and portions, the exercise regime is also reasonable, a 50-75 minute PER WEEK initial implementaton in phase one that gradually increases. Weight lifting and strength training, often the most difficult and grueling part of an exercise program and where most dieters stall out, does not begin until phase four of the Best Life diet, after harmful behaviors have changed and better eating habits have been established.

Breakfast Best Life Cheerios Cereal Mix Topped with half a pear, sliced
2 tablespoons pecans or other unsalted nut of your choice
1 cup nonfat or 1% milk
Lunch Nut Butter and Pear Sandwich
2 slices whole wheat bread
2 tablespoons almond or other nut butter of your choice
half a pear, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon honey
Serve with half cup carrot sticks
Dinner Lemon and Herb Grilled Trout
5-inch ear of corn, grilled along with fish
Sauteed Sugar Snap Peas with Ginger

Phase 2

Breakfast Chocolate-Strawberry Smoothie with oat bran bagel and cream cheese
Lunch Strawberry-Peach Chicken Salad
Dinner Soup and Steak salad and slice of whole grain bread

Phase 3

Breakfast Hot Oatmeal, oatbran or other whole grain cereal with Almonds and Apricots, 1 cup of nonfat or 1% milk
Lunch Chicken Tabouleh Pitas, orange
Dinner Fajitas with Guacamole
